About
I've been working as a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of the West of England since 2007.
My research is mainly in the fields of language contact and typology.
I've conducted fieldwork on the Amazonian languages Mosetén and Pirahã, as well as on Greenlandic and immigrant languages.
I've written a grammar of Mosetén (2004), and have co-authored the book 'Linguistic Fieldwork - a student guide' (Cambridge University Press, red series) together with Dan Everett (2012). I'm the co-editor (with Yaron Matras) of 'Grammatical borrowing in cross-linguistic perspective', as well as having edited another 3 books and special issues.
At current, I'm looking at Somali in contact with English in immigrant situations - but my work on Mosetén and Pirahã is continuing as well.
I am also the Programme Manager for Linguistics and English Language at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
